The Eid el Fitr will come soon... After fasting one full month, Muslims around the world will celebrate the Eid-el Fitr holiday.
Different from Turkey, Indonesian bake many kinds of cookies instead of Baklava. Cookie jars arrange on the table waiting for family, friends, relatives, and neighbors to come.

But this year would be sadly different 😢
There won't be a family gathering due to the worldwide pandemic COVID-19. Gathering or meeting restrictions made to cut the spread of the virus.

Generally, the case in Turkey per 21 May showed positive grafik. The case getting low and lower daily. Per May, Turkey confirmed a total of 149,435 coronavirus cases as of Sunday. 109,962 of them have fully recovered while the death toll stands at 4,140.

Turkey has been one of the countries detecting COVID-19 cases the most rapidly and it took an important step by starting treatment at an early stage, the nation’s health minister told Monday the World Health Assembly (WHA).

"It is among the best-performing countries in terms of mortality rate and burden on the health care system. Thanks to the measures taken, Turkey was able to delay the arrival of the virus for three months and used this time to prepare its hospitals and health care system for the outbreak," Fahrettin Koca said.

He noted that the occupancy rate in Turkey's hospitals is still below 40% and below 60% in intensive care units.

"Turkey is one of the few countries providing all services to its citizens free of charge under universal health coverage. We are always ready to exchange knowledge and experiences," said the minister.--

So, I am trying to cheer up the days and upcoming Bayram holiday by keep bringing the holiday atmosphere to our house. Cook and bake as I was cooking for the Eid-el Fitr holiday for my family at home. Clean up and decorate our house as if many guests will come 😃
But since nobody will come I bake a small batch only. Just enough for us for this holiday.

Kembang Goyang / Rosettes / Honeycomb / Kuih Loyang Fried Cookies

Recipe in English please visit this link

Naahh... setelah nyingkirin rasa males.. akhirnya kesampaian bikin kembang goyang lagi.

Simit....is  Turkish style bagel.
Famous among all Turkish people or people who had visited Turkey. İt's very difficult to turn your head and did not find this- round, chewy inside, cover with sesame- bread.
You can find it easily in every corner or mobile seller in Istanbul's street or any street all around Turkey.

Susamlı Gevrek Toplar (Sesame balls cookies)

If "plan A" didn't work... don't worry, there are still 25 more letters in alphabet  (^,^)

Selam Everybody...Merhaba from Turkey....

Talking about alphabet... in Turkçe (Turkish language) we have 29 letters seven of which are (Ç, Ğ, I, İ, Ö, Ş, and Ü) but letters W, Q and X (replace by V, K and KS) do not occur in Turkish alphabet.

So Turkish has more than 26 other plans if "plan A" failed (^,^)
It was just an intermezzo from me.... the point is we should not give up on things we want to reach because - like other proverb says - many ways to go to Rome... right?

Well.... those are nothing to do with my recipe I'm going to share today because making this crunchy sesame balls you don't have to make plan A or B or C .... this snack is simple as it looks yet best companion for your tea or coffee time.

It's simple and quick to make so this is absolutely your choice when you have an unexpected guest come by.
This recipe I took from iyiyemeginsirri.blogcu.com with minor adjustments.

Onde-Onde Isi Kacang hijau / Indonesian style glutinous dumpling balls

Onde Onde is one of Indonesian traditional snack or Jajan pasar (kue). Jajan Pasar (kue) is Indonesian bite-sized snack or dessert food. Kue is a fairly broad term in Indonesian to describe a wide variety of snacks; cakes, cookies, fritters, pies, scones, and patisserie. Kue are popular snacks in Indonesia, which has the largest variety of kue.

Indonesian kue are usually categorized according to its moisture. Roughly divided under two groups, kue basah (lit: "wet kue") and kue kering (lit: "dry kue"). In fact, the word kue in Indonesian language is used to refer to not only these kinds of traditional snack, but also all types of cake and some types of pastries. Most kue kering are technically pastries and many Western cakes can be considered as kue basah.

This Onde onde is one of kue basah category in Jajan pasar's variety. Make from Glutinous rice flour (black or white) covered by sesame seed with (traditionally) filled with mung bean (kacang hijau). Some  modern onde onde already modified with various filling such as chocolate, cheese, red bean, etc.

And my today's post is traditional Onde onde with mung bean filling. I used mix sesame seed for a little variation. Here I write my recipe base on "tabloid Nova" ... Have a try..and taste the real Indonesian jajan pasar in your kitchen (^,^)

Make about 15 dumpling balls.

Sesame candy bar recipe / Permen wijen hitam putih

I am so confuse and kinda lost lately cause my little one seems lost her appetizer. She eats less and sometimes pushes her food away... I don't have any idea why... Do you my readers, ever get same problem with me now? Is she boring with her menu? I always try to change menu everyday, even in one day, she will eat 2 or 3 different type of meal plus fresh juice, yogurt and milk.

I didn't want to push her too much. I just try to give her food again after 2 or 3 hours later. Or I will feed her quickly. Then I'm thinking to make a snack which I think full of vitamin and like 'energy booster' for her..so I come up with this candy bar idea. I didn't have any peanut or other kind of nut in my cupboard..just this sesame seeds. Well... I just go ahead...Next time I will make it again with more variant ingredients.

 Makes about 12 bars.

Ingredients:
  • + 1/4 cup white sesame seeds (you can mix with roasted peanut, sunflower seeds, sliced almond, etc)

  • 1/4 cup caster sugar

Kandil Simidi / Turkish shortbread bagel

Selam everybody....Merhaba from Turkey.

İt's late post. Since İ had been a little busy with my cleaning schedule at house  before and after kandil night^,^. My today's post is about Kandil simidi.
Kandil Simidi is a traditional Turkish simit pastry, which is eaten during the Kandil religious holiday. It is ring-shaped and coated in sesame seeds cookie-look alike.
During the five nights of Kandil, these pastries are baked and offered to neighbors and relatives.

There are five kandil night celebration in Turkey. Kandil taken from word candle from the time of Sultan Selim II who had candles lit in the Mosques Minarets to mark the holy evenings.
The five holy evenings on the Muslim calendar are called Kandil. During the Ottoman Empire Sultan Selim II of 16th century lit candles on the minarets of the mosques in order to announce these holy nights to the public. Since this calendar is calculated with the revolution of the moon around the earth the dates of the Kandils differ every year.
Mevlid Kandili (Mawlid an-Nabi) - The birth of Prophet Mohammad
Regaip Kandili – The night of Muhammed's conception
Miraç Kandili (Lailat al Miraj) – Prophet Mohammad's rising to sky
Berat Kandili (Mid-Sha'ban) – The forgiveness of the sins
Kadir Gecesi (Laylat al-Qadr) – The Koran's first appearance to Prophet Mohammad

And as follow the tradition here in Turkey İ also made this Kandil simidi. Different from my other simit İ post before here, this kandil simidi has more or less like shortbread. And here the recipe for you who want to make, just accompany your tea or coffee.
